Modernity is a way of thinking and living that took shape in the West with the Enlightenment. The Islamic world has built its science, law and social order within its own tradition.

Between the two worlds, dialogue and selective synthesis are possible rather than mere opposition. Universal goals such as human dignity, justice and access to knowledge can be supported by modern means in the light of Islamic values.
